Mercedes Benz G 500 Final Edition

Mercedes-Benz conjures up two special versions of the G-class, one of which will come to the Netherlands in any case. That seems to be the version with the greatest meaning. It is namely a Final Edition that heralds the farewell of the G500.

In one fluid movement, Mercedes-Benz pulls the curtain off the Mercedes-AMG G63 Grand Edition and the G500 Final Edition. The Dutch importer has not yet said a word about the first, which is actually not much more than a G63 AMG limited to 1,000 copies, which is finished with a series of matte black and gold accents. In any case, the G500 Final Edition will come to our country and that special and also limited version will wave goodbye to the G500.

In 1993 – thirty years ago now – Mercedes-Benz introduced a V8 for the first time in the then current G-class. That G500 was built in a small edition and with the Final Edition of the current G-class, Mercedes-Benz pays homage to that first G500 and immediately heralds the approaching farewell to that engine version.

The Mercedes-Benz G500 has a 421 hp biturbo V8 that – despite the fact that the number ‘500’ suggests otherwise – has a displacement of 4 liters. The Mercedes-Benz G500 Final Edition will be available in obsidian black, in the special Manufaktur paint finishes Opalite White Mano and the new Olive Magno also available for the Manufaktor catalogue. The G500 Final Edition in each of these colors will be limited to 500 units worldwide.

The Mercedes-Benz G500 Final Edition is on 20-inch light alloy with five double spokes. If you choose the G500 Final Edition in the colors Obsidian Black or Opalite Mano, the wheels are finished in glossy black. Mercedes-Benz naturally gives the G500 Final Edition a set of Final Edition badges, including on the side moldings and on the spare wheel holder. The G logo and the text ‘Stronger than time’ are projected onto the ground from the exterior mirrors when the car is stationary. The ring of the spare wheel holder is finished in shiny chrome and you will also find this shiny finish in the bumpers, among other things. Illuminated Final Edition door sills and a custom key, the Superior Line package with Burmester audio, special Manufaktur nappa leather interior trim that matches the color of the car are also part of the Final Edition celebration. There is not yet a Dutch price.

The departure of the G500 does not mean the end of the G-class. There will even be a fully electric variant of the G-class: the EQG.
