After subtly announcing the bike last year at EICMA in Milan, the V100 Stelvio has been spotted in Italy during testing. The V100 Stelvio is based on the V100 Mandello launched last year.

Two wheels on a stage, with behind it a large screen with pictures of the famous Stelvio pass and the Stelvio logo above it. You no longer needed a drawing to conclude that the comeback of the Stelvio was imminent.

With the V100 Mandello just launched, the conclusion was quickly drawn that the new Stelvio would be derived from it, the only question was when the new V100 Stelvio would be launched.

Judging by the spy photos our man took in Italy, it won’t be long now. Although the prototype has been skilfully taped to disguise the design and make it look like the bike hasn’t reached the final stage of development yet, according to our man the launch won’t be long now.

The new V100 Stelvio will be as quirky a counterpart to the forthcoming BMW R 1300 GS as its predecessor was to the R 1200 GS. The main differences from the V100 Mandello, from which the Stelvio is derived, are the larger spoked wheels fitted with tires with a knobby profile, longer-travel suspension, a larger windshield that is presumably adjustable and handguards.

It is also clearly visible that the new V100 Stelvio is equipped with radar at the front and rear, from which it can be concluded that the engine will be equipped with adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection.

That on top of the standard electronics that the V100 Mandello is equipped with with multiple driving modes and the IMU for cornering ABS and lean angle dependent traction control. The suspension, on the other hand, does not appear to be electronically controlled.

In terms of performance, we don’t think the Stelvio will be much different from the Mandello, which is quoted for peak power of 115PS at 8,700rpm and maximum torque of 105Nm at 6,750rpm.

The V100 Stelvio is expected to be launched this fall as a 2024 model.
