Yamaha celebrates 25th anniversary of R1 with special YRE

Twenty-five years ago, Yamaha launched the YZF-R1 and turned the one-litre supersport segment upside down. To celebrate this appropriately, Yamaha will not present an anniversary model, but special activities at the Yamaha Racing Experience (YRE), which is scheduled for July 21 and 22 at the Mugello circuit.

Yamaha celebrates 25th anniversary of R1 with special YRE

Not a unique anniversary model, as Suzuki has done with the also 25-year-old Hayabusa, but a festively decorated Yamaha Racing Experience on the Mugello circuit in the Tuscan hills. Normally the YRE is exclusively accessible to R1M customers, but the 2023 YRE will be opened to R1 owners in general for the first time.

Participants can attend the event in two different ways. Only 25 spots are available for the entire 2-day program for R1 owners, where they can enjoy the full YRE together with R1M customers, including track sessions on both days, the opportunity to seek advice from Yamaha technicians, exclusive guided tours through the WorldSBK factory team pit box.

R1 owners can also choose to attend on Saturdays only, where they can register for free for up to two track sessions and further enjoy the atmosphere of the event.

To add some luster to the special YRE, all Yamaha R1 riders will also be present: Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Andrea Locatelli (Yamaha Prometon WorldSBK Team), Remy Gardner and Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team), Lorenzo Baldassari (GMT94 Yamaha WorldSBK Team), Bradley Ray (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) and Niccolò Canepa (YART Yamaha Official EWC Team).

The 25th anniversary celebration at the YRE promises to be an exclusive experience for all R1 and R1M owners to come together and honor these iconic machines, with a special display of R1s through the years, including a collection of some of the most memorable racing motorcycles, with the event showcasing the R1’s lasting legacy in the world of motorcycling.

Paolo Pavesio, Marketing and Motorsport Director, Yamaha Motor Europe:

“We are proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Yamaha R1 in 2023. The R1 has been a game-changer in the world of motorcycles, pushing the boundaries of performance and innovation and constantly evolving to be at the forefront of the racing world. It’s a bike that has spent the last 25 years reimagining what’s possible with technology and innovations directly derived from MotoGP and WSBK. The Yamaha Racing Experience at Mugello will be something special this year, the perfect opportunity to honor such an iconic machine alongside our customers and some of Yamaha’s biggest stars.”
