Despite the fact that Toyota and Suzuki do not belong to the same group, the two manufacturers now share almost countless models with each other. Thanks to Toyota, Suzuki now has a new model. Meet the Suzuki Invicto, an MPV-like with the necessary SUV elements that would never have existed without Toyota.
Car manufacturers are happy to exchange cars among themselves. For example, the Mazda 2 Hybrid that is for sale in the Netherlands next to the regular 2 is of course not a Mazda at all, but a Toyota Yaris Hybrid. Suzuki goes one step further. That sells two models from another manufacturer here: the Swace and the Across. The Swace is of course little more than a Toyota Corolla Touring Sports with a handful of its own details and Suzuki badges, the Across a RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid according to the same recipe. Toyota does not supply cars in the Netherlands that are secretly Suzukis, but it does do so far outside Europe. There are almost no car manufacturers that do not belong to the same group that exchange as many models as Suzuki and Toyota. Today we shed light on the latest fruit of the apparently pleasant collaboration between the two brands. This is the Suzuki Invicto.
The original: the Toyota Innova.
Like many other Suzuki models, the Invicto is actually not a Suzuki at all, but a Toyota model. The Invicto, which Suzuki only markets in India for the time being, is a Toyota Innova and, to be precise, the hybrid version of it that goes through life in India as the Toyota Innova HyCross. The Invicto has slightly different bumper work and its own grille, complete with a different mesh, two thick slats and a Suzuki logo in it. Seen from behind and also from the inside, the cars – except for the logos – are very similar. The Suzuki Invicto has a 166 hp and 188 Nm 2.0 four-cylinder that, together with a 114 hp electric motor, provides a system power of 186 hp. This powertrain also comes from the Innova, of course.
The Suzuki Invicto is also completely Toyota on the inside.
Like the original, the Suzuki Invicto is a car that seems to be a cross between an MPV and an SUV. In India, the Invicto is part of Maruti Suzuki’s ‘Nexa’ models, cars that it positions higher in the market than cars like the Celerio and Swift. Other Nexa models include the Fronx, Jimny, Grand Vitara, XL6, Ciaz, Baleno, and Ignis. The Grand Vitara is sold by Toyota as Urban Cruiser HyRyder, while Toyota sells the Baleno as Starlet and Glanza depending on the market. Other Toyotas that are a Suzuki: The Toyota Vitz is a Celerio and the Rumion an Ertiga, Other Suzukis that are a Toyota: The Suzuki Landy (Toyota Noah). Are we there yet?
