Renault 5

Only those who have lived their lives under a rock for the past few years are unaware of the arrival of a fully electric Renault 5. The production version of that electric hatchback, which is overloaded with retro design, has now been visualized by Renault itself.

The day after we showed you the first photos of packed test copies of the electric Renault 5, the French themselves throw a bunch of photos of the production version of the 5 Prototype into the world. Remarkably, we see more of the new 5 on the plates released by Renault itself than before. Where the prototype snapped in Spain at the beginning of this month was still covered with an exuberant psychedelic sticker sheet, the Renaults 5 in the new photos are in a black coat with colored lines that indicate the contours and details.

For example, on the black Renaults 5 we see the final taillights, the actual headlights and the door handles hidden in the C-pillars. In addition, we see that on the black strip that runs across the entire width of the buttocks, the brand name Renault can be read in letters of modest size. To the right of that we see a stylized ‘5’ which of course stands for the name of the car. Renault gives the 5 a small rear window wiper and even transfers the elevation in the front cover of the 5 Prototype to the production model, which refers to the air vents in the bonnet of the original 5. What also remains intact are the square trim parts that Renault has installed in the bumpers and around which the 5 Prototype had LED daytime running lights. The tailgate is located in the left front screen.

The first pre-production models are now rolling off the line at Renault’s Global Production Engineering Center near Paris. It concerns 60 units that will be extensively tested prior to the market introduction of the Renault 5 early next year.
