Handing over dissatisfied

Zandvoort has struck a blow to the plan to have the organization of the Dutch Grand Prix that takes place in August pay a few euros per visitor. This causes misunderstanding in the organization of the Dutch Formula 1 festival.
Zandvoort has been toying with plans to have the organization of the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort pay a so-called ‘entertainment tax’ per visitor this year. That levy of €3 per person will now actually be introduced, ANP reports. The Zandvoort city council approved the introduction of the ‘fun tax’ on Tuesday. The organization does not have to pay the tax to the municipality until next year.
The municipality says that the tax is necessary to cover the costs it incurs in managing the huge number of visitors to the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. Roads will be closed and waste will have to be cleaned up. The organization of the Dutch Grand Prix is of course able to pass on the costs to the visitors.
The Dutch Grand Prix says it is not pleased with the introduction of the entertainment tax, but is resigned to it for the time being. “We are still convinced that this event will yield many times more for the municipality of Zandvoort,” says director Robert van Overdijk. “For that reason, it is not fair to then also want to burden the visitor of our event with a fun tax. That is not in proportion to what the Dutch Grand Prix will yield for the municipality.”
