The little Harley-Davidson has certainly not harmed the Americans for the time being. Since its introduction just over a month ago, partner Hero MotoCorp has sold more than 25,000 X440s via pre-orders in its native India.

Since Harley-Davidson launched the X440, India, where the X440 was the first to be marketed in the Asian region, has seen an unprecedented storm for pre-orders. At the end of last month, Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz stated that sales were “beyond expectations”, but did not give any figures.
However, in a press release on Tuesday, August 8, Hero MotoCorp, the Indian giant responsible for the production of the X440 in a joint development project with Harley-Davidson, mentioned numbers and they are indeed not wrong at all. According to the press release, in a month (the pre-order window closed on August 3), no fewer than 25,597 orders have been placed for the Harley-Davidson X440.
To give you an idea, Harley reported annual sales in the Asia-Pacific region of 27,900 motorcycles for the past year 2022, which in itself is a very impressive figure for a premium brand with premium prices. But the new X440 has almost matched that figure in just one month.
It is also interesting that according to Hero, about 65% of all pre-orders concern the top-end version of the X440, which retails for ₹ 2.69 lakh (approx. € 2,960) in India. That’s ₹ .40 lakh (approx. € 440) more than the ₹ 2.29 lakh (approx. 2,520) costing standard version has to be tapped. Expressed in percentage terms, 17% more expensive than the standard version.
“We are very pleased with the customer response to the Harley-Davidson X440. It is heartwarming to see the confidence of the customers in this new step of Hero MotoCorp. What is even more encouraging is that the majority of our bookings come from the top model, which clearly shows that customers are willing to pay a higher price for the right make and model.”
“This is just the beginning of our journey to win in the premium segment. More iconic launches will follow soon.”
