In the middle of this year, Tesla and several Chinese car manufacturers seemed to have buried the hatchet in the price war. The reality is different though. Tesla is again lowering the prices of its cars in China.
At the end of last year, various car manufacturers attacked each other with significant price reductions. Tesla not only lowered the prices of the Model 3 and Model Y by thousands of euros in the Netherlands at the beginning of this year, not only in China. Various car manufacturers, including BYD, responded by cutting prices, at least in China. Tesla and various Chinese car manufacturers seemed to end the price war in the middle of last year. They agreed that the brands would compete ‘fairly’ with each other and no longer conduct ‘abnormal pricing’. Tesla is now lowering prices in China again, ANP reports.
The Tesla Model Y Long Range and Performance will be €1,800 less expensive in China. The price reduction that Tesla is implementing seems to be a response to the decision of Zeekr, Geely and Leapmotor, who have slashed the prices of their EVs in recent weeks. Tesla itself decided one day after the agreement of the ‘truce’ in the price war to promise customers a cash refund of several hundred euros.
