Always wanted to bring a piece of Formula 1 into your home? Now there is the chance to get your hands on a very special piece of F1 history. Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2001-B is going under the hammer.
Dominance in Formula 1 is nothing new. Max Verstappen is currently stringing together victories, previously it was Lewis Hamilton and again earlier Michael Schumacher was good for unprecedented dominance. That started in 2000. Schumacher treated in 2000 and 2001 with nine victories in seventeen races. Not only Schumacher was of exceptional class, his cars in those years – the Ferrari F1-2000 and successor F2001 – were also quite good. In fact, the F2001 was so good that Schumacher entered it twice more in 2002, before the even more legendary F2002 took over.
It is the F2001-B, the further development of the F2001, which was briefly used at the beginning of 2002, and which is now being offered for auction. Michael Schumacher drove this car in the Australian and Malaysian GPs, the first two races of that year. He won in Australia and finished third in Malaysia. He also took pole position in Malaysia and P2 in Australia. A car with a short but impressive track record. Moreover, an iconic looking F1 car for everyone, not only because of the shapes, but also because of the well-known color scheme with the major sponsorship of Vodafone and Marlboro on it.
The car, chassis number 215, came into the hands of a Swiss collector in 2003 and has been used regularly for racing events over the years. In 2011 the car came to its current owner and now the F2001-B is offered for auction. Sotheby’s auctions the car and says that the car must first be technically checked by Ferrari and needs maintenance before the V10 can scream again. You can bet that it will cost a nice penny, although the purchase of the car itself will be completely unearthly pricey. The auction starts today and no estimated yield has yet been reported. Previously, an F2001 (the longer used predecessor) yielded about €13.5 million. Logically, this F2001-B yields slightly less.
