Triumph recalls Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660: engine may stall

Triumph has issued a recall for the 2022-2024 Trident 660 and 2022-2024 Tiger Sport 660. The ECU may be receiving erroneous information from the MAP sensor, which could lead to an erratic idle. Also, the engine can sometimes stall, which could lead to a crash in a worst case scenario.

Triumph recalls Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660: engine may stall

On February 23, 2023, Triumph received an initial warranty claim, after which an extensive investigation was launched. That investigation taught Triumph that the MAP sensor that measures the air pressure in the intake manifold, which the ECU uses to control fuel injection, may be reporting an incorrect value.

The MAP hose connects the MAP sensor to the intake manifold and runs on the left side of the frame. The hose has an internal restrictor located closest to the inlet manifold. An obstruction in that hose can cause the air pressure in the MAP sensor to change.

As a result, the MAP sensor transmits a different air pressure to the ECU than the actual pressure in the intake manifold. The incorrect data can lead to an erratic idle, or the engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.

At the Triumph dealer the MAP hose will be replaced with a new 3 piece hose with Triumph part number T1249666.
