Renault Scenic

At the beginning of this year, the last traditional Renault Scénic rolled off the production line as an MPV and voilà, here is its successor. Just like the Espace, it keeps the same name, with the addition of E-Tech. In line with expectations, the Scenic thus transforms into a fully electric crossover and can join the many competitors as a trend follower.

Highlights

  • Front-wheel drive, 160 or 220 hp
  • Battery capacity 60 or 87 kWh, DC charging with 120 or 150 kW
  • WLTP range 420 or 620 km
  • 7 cm longer than the last Scenic, 8 cm lower
  • 27 cm longer, 7 cm higher than Megane E-Tech
  • Route planning with charging stops and battery preconditioning

In 1996, the first Mégane Scénic unleashed a flood of midi MPVs. The fourth generation debuted in 2016 and had to compete against the advancing SUV and crossover from the very beginning. Moreover, electrification gained momentum. In September 2021 we were first introduced to the new Megane E-Tech Electric, also a kind of crossover. The Scenic E-Tech uses the same technology and the CMF-EV platform, but is clearly a size larger. Place it in the segment of the Nissan Ariya, Toyota BZ4X, Tesla Model Y and the new Peugeot e-3008/e-5008.

Spacious rear entry

The front is the new family face of Renault, as we already see on the Rafale and the updated Clio, with the most eye-catching detail being the daytime running lights on the corners that make the car appear wider. Something similar has also been applied to the rear. The closed grille is characterized by the diamond shapes in the body color. On the side, the recessed door handles are striking. Furthermore, the Scenic E-Tech no longer looks like an MPV at all, even though the rear doors are remarkably large, which promises a spacious entry. And indeed, you get in easily and you have more than enough head and leg room. The sofa cannot be moved and the backrests cannot be adjusted.

Jean-Michel Jarre for the sound effects

The dashboard is beautiful and not surprising and is almost identical to that of the Megane E-Tech. The infotainment system runs on Android Automotive, which gives you access to many Google apps. This also applies to the navigation, which includes charging stops in the route planning and also ensures that the battery has the ideal temperature for the fast charger. For the welcome sound after boarding and the mandatory exterior pedestrian warning, Renault collaborates with the well-known 75-year-old synthesizer composer Jean-Michel Jarre, who is still a household name, especially in France. The Scenic E-Tech is produced in France and will be launched in early 2024 and will be in the same price range as the aforementioned competitors.
