Increasing sales of electric cars are driving sales in the automotive industry

Companies in the Dutch automotive industry achieved significantly more turnover in the second quarter of this year than in the second quarter of last year. This is evident from figures released today by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The car and motorcycle industry raked in 33.7 percent more money in the second quarter of this year than in the same quarter of last year. According to Statistics Netherlands, this is mainly due to an increase in the sale of electric cars, but also because there are many back orders be eliminated and of course because the prices of vehicles have increased sharply recently. According to Statistics Netherlands, the strongest increase in turnover was achieved by the subsector trade and repair of passenger cars. There, turnover increased by no less than 49.1 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to last year.

Dutch car importers saw their turnover increase by 29.2 percent in the second quarter. In the subsector trade in car parts 8.2 percent more turnover was generated than in the second quarter of last year. Although the turnover figures are excellent, business confidence in the car and motorcycle sector is relatively low, according to Statistics Netherlands. The car and motorcycle industry is also suffering from a staff shortage. Figures from Statistics Netherlands show that around 47 percent of companies in the car and motorcycle sector indicate that they have a shortage of personnel at the beginning of the third quarter. This percentage has dropped, after all, it was still 53 percent at the beginning of the second quarter. This is also evident from the number of vacancies in the car and motorcycle sector. In the second quarter of this year there were approximately 9,300 vacancies, compared to 8,400 in the first quarter.
