Makes sense after GM

Honda is also giving in to the Tesla plug

It could hardly have been otherwise: Honda is also switching to the North American Charging Standard, or Tesla’s fast charging plug, in North America.

Electric Hondas delivered in North America from 2025 will no longer have a CCS connection. From that moment on, the more compact Tesla standard is used, which makes it possible to fast charge at Tesla’s superchargers without an adapter. Models from before 2025 can also do this, but with an adapter.

The CCS plug (type 1, different from ‘our’ type 2) is still used in North America for fast chargers that are not from Tesla, but the question is for how long. Honda is certainly not the first car manufacturer to switch to the ‘NACS’. Ford did so in May, after which General Motors, Volvo, Rivian and Nissan also switched. The fact that General Motors has done this before probably has everything to do with Honda’s ‘choice’. Honda and GM are working together on EVs for North America and the Acura ZDX (Honda’s luxury brand, photo) is on a General Motors platform. It is therefore not surprising that the Acura, just like Chevrolets and GMCs, will soon have the Tesla plug.

None of this has any consequences for Europe for the time being. Here it is precisely Tesla that ‘gave in’, because modern Teslas have a CCS connector here, just like other EVs.
