If it works…

The Ford Explorer will live up to its name, if all goes well, because it should become the first fully electric car to drive around the world. Lexi Alford has the honor of traveling more than 28,000 km with the Explorer.
Electric cars still have a world to conquer and we regularly see manufacturers coming up with special challenges for them. At the beginning of this year, a Nissan Ariya set out from the North to the South Pole. A journey of about 27,000 km, for which the Ariya was heavily rigged. Ford takes a slightly different approach with the new Explorer. It sets off in standard form with Lexi Alford, the youngest person ever to visit every country in the world, behind the wheel. So she has quite a bit of travel experience.
Where Ford’s challenge surpasses Nissan’s is that the total trip Alford will make is almost 29,000 long. A difference of ‘only’ about 2,000 km, but an important difference. One of the conditions to be able to speak of a ‘tour around the world’ is that a route of at least 28,968 km is covered. It must start and end at the same point and the route must cover at least five continents.
She will have to do this very often.
Alford starts her journey today in Nice, at the Hotel Royal. That location was chosen because in the 1920s another female traveler, Aloha Wanderwell, started her journey around the world in a Model T Ford there. The journey for Alford will undoubtedly be slightly less challenging, but she will probably face significant challenges in countries where there is little to no charging infrastructure. The journey must be completed within 100 days.
It was recently announced that the Ford Explorer has been delayed in its journey to the showrooms.
