High absenteeism due to illness creates a greater demand for hands

VDL Nedcar is dismissing significantly fewer permanent employees than previously thought. This is evident from reporting by the Eindhovens Dagblad.
Initially, VDL Nedcar would dismiss almost a thousand permanent employees, although later more than 900 permanent employees would be dismissed. The Eindhovens Dagblad reports, based on unspecified sources, that significantly fewer permanent employees will be dismissed as of November 1. It would ultimately involve between 300 and 350 employees.
So fewer permanent employees are being dismissed, but the number of roughly a thousand flex workers and temporary workers who are being laid off remains unchanged, according to the Eindhovens Dagblad. Due to, among other things, high absenteeism, more production workers would be needed than initially determined.
Production of Minis at VDL Nedcar will stop as of March 2024. There is no major new client yet. A larger round of layoffs may follow later.
