Nissan Pathfinder

Do you remember the Nissan Pathfinder? In the Netherlands, Nissan briefly supplied an SUV with that name, but elsewhere in the world the Pathfinder has never been gone. In fact, there are now two lines of Nissan Pathfinder. You can feel it coming: we are looking far across the border again to see what is happening there in the automotive field.

For years, AutoWeek has offered you more than just car news that is only relevant to Dutch consumers. We also bring news to people who find the entire automotive world interesting, which is simply a bit bigger than the Netherlands or Europe. For the car in this article we travel to China. AutoWeek has once again delved into the list of new models that the Chinese Ministry of Transport and Information Technology publishes monthly. We introduce you: a new Nissan Pathfinder. One, indeed. Not the new one.

Nissan Pathfinder

The Nissan Pathfinder as it already existed.

Wait a minute, what about that? – you undoubtedly wonder with equal parts anticipation and surprise. In the United States, among other places, the Pathfinder line, of which the model also delivered in the Netherlands between 2000 and 2001 is a distant relative, has never gone away. The current generation Pathfinder is only about two years old and so it is far from time for a successor. The Pathfinder does not exist in China. Until now. The Chinese partnership Dongfeng Nissan presented a concept Pathfinder purely for the Chinese market in April this year and it is the production version that we can now present to you.

The fact that this Pathfinder is not just a variant of the existing Pathfinder on which Nissan’s Chinese joint venture has put its own face is evident from the shape of the windows, among other things. That one is completely different. The new SUV has a heavy fence in its snout with fairly flat headlights above it. At the rear we see modest taillights housed in a black strip. The Chinese Pathfinder measures 5.13 meters in length, which makes it 11 centimeters longer than the existing model. At 2.9 meters, the wheelbase is the same as that of the Pathfinder, which has been running for a while. The SUV weighs at least 2,011 kilos, comes with a 252 hp strong blown 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engine and is available with or without all-wheel drive.
