Practical consumption Ford Ka (2008-2016): Fiat technology in Ford body

The first generation Ford Ka was a great success, so its successor had big shoes to fill. To do this successfully, Ford joined forces with Fiat, a manufacturer that has a knack for building successful minis. The result is a Ford Ka with Fiat technology, right down to the 1.2 four-cylinder. How is this doing in the Ka?

The second generation Ford Ka was launched in 2008 and lasted until 2016. Despite its Fiat genes, you have to look very closely to see that both cars have a lot in common. We will discover today whether the cars also share practical consumption. For comparison: drivers of a Fiat 500 with a 1.2-liter engine achieved an average of 1 in 15.2 (6.6 l/100 km).

Consumption Ford Ka 1.2

We don’t beat around the bush: Ford Ka drivers do slightly better with an average of 1 in 15.6 (6.4 l/100 km). The most economical driver even achieves 1 in 18.3 (5.5 l/100 km) over a distance of 15,691 kilometers in six months. The second most economical driver covered 14,593 kilometers with an average consumption of 1 in 17.4 (5.7 l/100 km) and it took him about seven months. Also a relative frequent driver.

At the bottom of the list are a number of drivers who score 1 out of 14 or worse. They soon stopped keeping the consumption monitor. The most unfavorable value recorded over a longer distance (12,614 kilometers) is 1 in 14.2 (7.1 l/100 km). An explanation for the higher consumption could be that it took almost three years to cover this distance. We suspect an existence in which many short journeys were made and, seen in that light, consumption is not too bad.

What we all know applies to the Ford Ka: if you drive it for longer distances, you can do so relatively economically and on short journeys the car will ‘drink’. This balance leads to a no more than decent city car average.
