Also for export!
A marriage you may not have seen coming: Renault’s Korean branch Renault Korea Motors will produce the upcoming Polestar 4. In and for South Korea, but also for export!
Reneault Korea Motors (RKM) has been the name of the former Renault Samsung Motors since 2022. Samsung is slowly but surely withdrawing from this company, but Renault still has a special, separate branch in South Korea. That branch still uses unique logos and type names for the models it offers, although we do know those models ourselves. Renault Korea Motors’ sales are not what they once were, which most likely explains why it has started looking for a partner to keep the Busan factory running. That partner was found in Polestar, which we know in Europe as a sister brand of Volvo and (therefore) a daughter of the Chinese Geely.
Renault Korea Motors may build the Polestar 4 in Busan from 2025. This rear window-less and medium-sized EV will be made in the country’s second city primarily for the South Korean market, but Polestar 4s will also roll off the production line in Busan for the North American market. Europe is not yet mentioned in this context, although a shift in that area is always possible. The Polestar 4 is the first fully electric car to be built by Renault Korea Motors in South Korea, but it certainly should not be the last. RKM says it wants to focus on the production of fully electric models in the higher D and E segments and has a capacity of 300,000 cars per year.
