Second electric SUV from Ford based on Volkswagen

Will the Ford Capri return as an electric SUV with a relatively steeply sloping roofline? That could very well be the case these days. In these photos you see a new electric SUV from Ford that could just be the new Capri!
Volkswagen and Ford’s European division are quite compatible. The collaboration between the two German-based companies now goes quite far. For example, the Volkswagen Amarok is basically a Ford Ranger, the Ford Tourneo Connect is a Volkswagen Caddy and there will be a new Volkswagen Transporter based on the Transit Custom. Volkswagen and Ford have also found each other when it comes to (electric) passenger cars. Earlier this year, Ford presented the electric Explorer, an SUV that, like cars such as the Volkswagen ID4, Skoda Enyaq and Audi Q4, is on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. This is not the only electric SUV from Ford that borrows its technology from Volkswagen. In these photos you see Ford’s second MEB model.
The electric Ford Explorer. His arrival has been postponed to the summer of 2024.
The wrapped electric Ford in these photos is the second and last passenger car where the brand turns to Volkswagen for technology. Judging by the windows and things like the hood, the car shows similarities with the electric Explorer. The big difference: this second electric SUV-like from Ford has a more sloping roofline. It therefore seems that this newcomer is to the Explorer as the ID5 is to the ID4. Indeed: as a more dynamic and more expensive alternative.
Ford’s 2022 EV Outlook.
As early as March 2022, Ford previewed a series of electric cars. It showed, among other things, the fronts of the upcoming electric variant of the Puma and of newcomers that it then referred to as Sport Crossover and Medium Size Crossover. The Sport Crossover became the Explorer, the Medium Size Crossover you can see in these photos. Although it leans on the Explorer, that EV also has a completely actual front. While the Explorer has boomerang-shaped headlights, its electric brother has higher headlights with a light signature that should suggest two lights.
The light signature in particular gives a hint as to what the car may be called. Ford has been hinting at the return of model names that have been discontinued for decades for some time now. One of these is Capri, which name would have been re-recorded by the brand, just like Cortina, Granada, Orion and Escort. It is therefore quite possible that the Capri model name will return to a car marketed as a ‘sports car’. In today’s automotive world, this could just as well be an electric SUV with a relatively steeply sloping roofline. The Capri II – and various variants of the original Capri – had double headlight units on each side of the front. Indeed: just like the cars in these photos.
