Renault: seven EVs by 2031, including one for less than €20,000

Renault’s EV offensive, including new Twingo-like one?

Renault also plans to significantly increase the number of electric models it offers in the coming years. By 2031, the brand wants to have no fewer than seven electric cars in its range in Europe. It comes with, among other things, the electric Renault 5, Renault 4 and three unknown electric newcomers.

As early as 2022, Renault spoke about the establishment of Ampere, a now established industry that will focus on the development and production of electric cars and everything that entails. In terms of passenger cars, Renault’s current EV range currently consists of the Twingo E-Tech, Zoe E-Tech and Megane E-Tech. By 2031, Renault will have not three, but seven EVs in its range in Europe.

The electric Renault Twingo does not seem to have a long life and the Zoe will be followed next year in an electric reinterpretation of the Renault 5. The Megane E-Tech is still very young and will certainly still be present in 2031. We also know that Renault will soon add the already unveiled electric Scenic E-Tech to its delivery range. And what about the remaining four of the seven EVs that Renault will have in showrooms in 2031? We now know more about that too.

Renault previously confirmed that it will launch an electric car that, in a similar way to the new Renault 5, harks back to a model from yesteryear with various design elements. Renault is launching a new, this time fully electric Renault 4. With various concept cars, Renault has already given some ‘R4 hints’ and AutoWeek could already present the first patent drawings of what may become the new Renault 4 in 2021. The Renault 4 will be launched on the market in 2024. The Renault 5 should cost around €25,000.

Twingo

Renault also refers to a new electric model that it currently refers to as ‘Legend’. What we should expect from this is not quite heroes yet. Time to give the speculation mill a whirl. The electric Twingo will soon be retired and, according to Renault, will not be part of the EV line-up proposed for 2031. A compact affordable electric car that is one step below the new 4 and 5 is therefore very welcome. Given Renault’s preference to keep well-known model names alive – just look at the new Scenic and Espace – we expect the Twingo model name to continue to exist and return in the future on a brand new compact and relatively affordable EV. That car should cost less than €20,000.

Renault also indicates that it will add ‘two additional vehicles’ to its EV family, bringing the number to seven. In any case, we know that Renault also has an order version of the Renault 4 in the pipeline. Renault aims for electric cars to cost the same as comparable cars with combustion engines around 2027-2028. The second generation Mégane E-Tech will be available at dealers around that time, the brand says. Ampere develops will place its cars on two platforms: AmpR Small and AmpR Medium. You previously knew the first as the CMF-B EV base, the second as CMF-EV.

We will undoubtedly learn more about Renault’s future EVs later today. It is said that this afternoon it will even pull the curtain on ‘a new affordable EV’. Could that be the new Twingo after all?
