Meet the new Renault Twingo. The new Renault Twingo will closely resemble the very first Twingo, but unlike that modern classic, it will be a five-door and an EV. It will cost less than €20,000, which means Renault is fully participating in the hunt for affordable electric cars. It’s coming as early as 2026!

Renault CEO Luca de Meo has extensively presented the new EV and software branch of the Renault Group on stage. We already wrote about the seven electric cars that Renault will have on offer in Europe around 2031 and about the goal of bringing the prices of electric cars to the same level as those of cars with a combustion engine in 2027-2028. Renault will launch the Renault 5 with a retro design next year, which should cost around €25,000. But it must be even more affordable. One step below the Renault 5 comes a completely new Twingo!

The new electric Renault Twingo, just like the new Renault 5 and the Renault 4 announced for 2025, strongly harkens back to a predecessor of the same name in terms of design. With the new Twingo this is clearly the original Twingo, which it closely resembles. Not only is the basic shape of the car very reminiscent of that of the first Twingo, but also the round cheerful headlights protruding slightly from the front lid, the grilles on the sloping front lid – which in this case display the charging percentage – and the round rear lights are who think of the Twingo, which has now acquired quite a cult status. Also look at the round door handle, which is also a typical Twingo element.

Facelift Friday Renault Twingo I

The first generation Twingo remains a cheerful and often colorful appearance.

The new electric Renault Twingo should cost less than €20,000. A direct counterpart of the Dacia Spring. Unlike the Spring, the new electric Renault Twingo will soon be built in Europe. That is important for CEO Luca de Meo. The CEO talks about ‘re-industrialising Europe’. The new Twingo should be available for sale in 2026.

“The time of early adopters is over, we must democratize the electric car,” said De Meo. So keep it affordable. With an expected starting price of less than 20 grand, the brand is in any case taking a huge step. We do not have any technical data yet. At least, hardly. According to De Meo, the new electric Renault Twingo should consume only 10 kWh/100 kilometers. The new Twingo will most likely be based on the modular platform called AmpR Small and previously referred to as the CMF-B EV platform.

The Renault Twingo will soon have to compete against affordable electric newcomers such as the Citroën ë-C3, the new Fiat Panda and the announced Volkswagen ID1 and the small electric city rover from Opel and the other Stellantis brands.
