Gasoline prices are falling, but are still high

Are you still wiping your eyes dry after filling up your petrol or diesel car? That will happen more often. Yet fuel prices are falling slightly.

With some delay, falling oil prices are now having an effect on the prices you pay at the pump for a liter of petrol or diesel. Due to the instability in the Middle East, oil prices rose sharply, but are now at their lowest point in four months. This is reported by ANP. Fuel prices are also falling now.

The Average National Recommended Retail Price (GLA) of a liter of euro 95 (E10) is €2,146 at the time of writing, according to consumer collective United Consumers. For comparison: in September the same GLA was still just over €2.30 for a liter of euro 95. Anyone who puts more expensive E5 in their tank no longer knew where to look in September. The high prices were partly caused by production restrictions by various oil-producing countries, including Saudi Arabia and Russia. The Average National Recommended Price of a liter of diesel is €1,963 at the time of writing. In September, the GLA of a liter of diesel was above €2.10.

Please note: the recommended prices communicated by UnitedConsumers often only apply at main points along the highway. Outside of that area you can often refuel for considerably less, although it is better to keep the Kleenexes at hand.
