Opel Corsa (1983) – Enthusiast Wanted

Sympathetically ordinary

Opel Corsa (1983) – Enthusiast Wanted

When was the last time you saw a first generation Opel Corsa? There’s a good chance that was quite a while ago. And when a pre-facelift and then also a TR? This once ordinary white Corsa has also become special.

If all goes well, there are still a few hundred Corsas A left in our country. Probably the lion’s share of them are from the late 80s or early 90s, late pre-facelifts and the facelifted version. This white Corsa is actually one of a very early generation, from the first full year of construction, 1983. Moreover, it is a fairly modest copy (although the Corsa A was that anyway), with its white paint, steel wheels and 1.2 in nose. Of course, it could always be simpler, but this Corsa was clearly not put together with an exuberant budget.

Perhaps the nicest thing about this Corsa is that it is a TR, the two-door sedan. A body shape that was already on its way out in the Netherlands in the 1980s. Yet it was still a fairly common appearance on the Corsa, although you did not have the practical advantage of the hatchback hatch. But yes, at that time quite a few people still wanted a sedan and in 1983 you simply had to rely on the two-door. After all, the four-door Corsa sedan only arrived in 1985 and, not surprisingly, it took away quite a bit of market share from the two-door.

There is no arguing about taste, but as a sedan, such a Corsa A was certainly a kind of shrunken Rekord from the front and we can imagine that that was attractive to some in its time. In any case, at the beginning of August 1983, someone saw something in it and the purchase order was signed. That person was probably not much of a mileage eater, because although the NAP report is incomplete due to his age, we are inclined to believe that the odometer reading of less than 100,000 km is correct. Not least because the Corsa A could rust considerably and this is certainly visible on a white one, but we certainly did not encounter that in the photos on this example. The passenger seat (unfortunately we don’t get to see much of the interior) also still looks neat.

Nice color!

The car has spent the past 22 years (!) with one owner, will you be the next? No less than €4,500 is being asked for it and that is of course with a view to possible enthusiasts, but for a simple Corsa A, despite its neat condition, that seems a bit on the enthusiastic side.
