The Nissan Leaf has been a hatchback for two generations, but will soon ban that form. Indeed: the Nissan Leaf will also be SUV-like.
Earlier this month, Nissan announced it would invest more than 2 billion euros in its factory in Sunderland, England. The Juke, Qashqai and the electric Leaf are currently rolling off the production line in Sunderland. The trio will also see the light of day there in the future, but a lot will change. The next generations of the Juke and the Qashqai will always be electrically powered models. Just like the Leaf. We also know more about the soon completely new Leaf. That car is also in for a major makeover.
Nissan Hyper Punk Concept: the harbinger of the new Juke.
Nissan broadly explains where it gets its inspiration from for the new electric Juke, Qashqai and Leaf. The three new electric Nissans are all derivatives of relatively recent study models. For the electric Qashqai, Nissan takes inspiration from the Hyper Urban Concept that the brand recently showed in Tokyo. The soon to be fully electric Nissan Juke is also visually based on a study model that was recently presented in Japan: the Hyper Punk Concept. Although the Qashqai and Juke are completely renewed, nothing changes in the body shape. So the Qashqai becomes a medium-sized SUV-like one again, the Juke a more compact one.
Nissan Chill Out Concept (2021)
And what about the Leaf? For the new Nissan Leaf, the brand says it draws inspiration from the Chill-Out Concept that was shown in 2021. The Nissan Chill-Out Concept was not a relatively traditional hatchback like the Leaf has been for two generations, but an SUV-like one with a fairly steeply sloping roofline. Mid last year, AutoWeek already speculated that a production version of the Chill-Out Concept could easily become the successor to the Leaf. The current Nissan Leaf has been around since 2017 and is a thorough development of the first Leaf, which was first built in 2010.
