This is what BMW’s new electric SUV will be!

BMW is changing course when it comes to EVs, because a generation of electric models on a platform developed solely for that purpose is finally arriving under the name ‘New Class’. We already have a good idea of the sedan ‘i3’ thanks to concept cars, but now its SUV brother can be seen for the first time.
We often have spy images on this site, but rarely do we see so much news on them as we do today. After all, this is not only the first time that we get to see the production version of the BMW Neue Klasse SUV, but also the first time that we can form an image of that car at all. Until now, this model has remained purely theory, more specifically the promise that such a car is on the way.
Thanks to our spy photographer, we now finally know what to expect from the car. As mentioned earlier, this is the SUV brother of the sedan based on the same platform that is presented more or less at the same time. These are 3-series size cars, so expect the name ‘i3’ for the sedan and ‘iX3’ for the SUV. Indeed: this would be the successor to the current BMW iX3, which kicked off BMW’s current electric policy in 2020. After all, the iX3 is now ‘just’ an electric version of the X3, just as an i4 is an electric 4-series and an i5 is an electric 5-series.
How those two electric model lines will dry up next to each other in the future, the same future will have to tell. Now we only know that BMW is working on EVs on its own platform for the first time since the original i3. In terms of appearance, this Neue Klasse-iX3 has a lot in common with the Neue Klasse concept cars that serve as a precursor to the sedan. We see a similar nose, with ‘kidneys’ that are optically merged with the headlights and are much more modest in size than the enormous ornament found on the nose of an iX. The nose leans slightly forward, just like classic BMWs. From the side, the new BMW iX3 looks elongated and low, more like a crossover than an SUV. Its short nose gives away that this is an EV, but the car also stands on its wheels in traditional BMW fashion. That is, the overhang at the rear is considerably larger than that at the front, just like a BMW with a longitudinally mounted petrol engine.
BMW will kick off the Neue Klasse around 2025, so rest assured that we will see and hear many more of these cars next year.
