Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria

Yesterday, Alfa Romeo announced the name of its upcoming compact crossover. That Alfa Romeo Milano should account for about 40 percent of Alfa sales. At the other end of the numbers spectrum is the Alfa Romeo Castagna Vottoria. There is only one of them and apparently no one wants it.

In November this year we wrote about a very special Alfa Romeo: the Castagna Vittoria. You may have never heard of it and that doesn’t surprise us. The Castagna Vittoria is rarer than an Alfa Romeo 8C and even rarer than the 33 Stradale, which is limited to 33 units. In fact, there is only one of them. But for now no one seems to want to take care of the thing.

The Alfa Romeo Castagna Vittoria is a creation of coachbuilder Carrozzeria Castagna. Presented in 1995 during the Geneva Motor Show one off shares its basis with the Alfa Romeo 75, although virtually nothing remains of the original. Especially not abroad. Regardless of whether you find the Castagna Vittoria beautiful or ugly, no one can deny that it is a special appearance. The coupe has a striking rear overhang, a hood hanging over its face, headlights from an Opel Calibira and a strange window section.

In November the Castagna Vittoria went under the hammer. At least, that’s what he should have done. Auction house Car & Classic spoke of an expected proceeds of between €145,000 and €155,000. We are now more than a month further, but the unique Alfa has not yet been sold. What has happened in the meantime? The expected yield has been adjusted downwards. And quite a bit too: €75,000. Car & Classic now speaks of an expected proceeds of €75,000, which has been roughly halved.
