Volkswagen will also use the Tesla charging connection

The list of car manufacturers switching to Tesla charging connections in the United States is growing every month. This time it is Volkswagen that announces that it will equip its electric cars with the so-called NACS connection.

One car is not the same as the other and one charging connection is not the same as the other. In the United States, Tesla applies the so-called North American Charting Standard (NACS) to its cars. The fact that Tesla uses this connection also means that this is the connection that gives you access to Tesla’s large Supercharger fast charging network in the United States. Volkswagen has now also announced that it will equip its electric cars with the NACS connection in the future.

Not only car brand Volkswagen is switching to the NACS charging connection, Audi, Porsche and the youngest EV brand of the Volkswagen group Scout Motors will also receive the charging connections. From 2025, new electric cars from Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi and Scout will be supplied with the NACS connection. The brands – minus Scout, which has not yet built a single car – are still investigating the possibility of supplying an adapter for EVs built before 2025 that should make it possible to insert the NACS plug into the car.

Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai and Kia, Jaguar and Land Rover, Nissan, Rivian, Subaru, Volvo and Polestar have already indicated that they will use the NACS connections.
