Car insurance will become an average of 60 euros more expensive in 2023

There is a good chance that you will have paid more for your car insurance in 2023. The average premium for car insurance has risen sharply in the past year.

Between January and December last year, the average premium for car insurance in the Netherlands increased by 7.9 percent. This is reported by comparison site Autoverzekering.nl. The increase of almost eight percent corresponds to an average amount of about €60 per year.

The average premium increase for third-party insurance was 9.8 percent between January and December. For third-party liability+ insurance, the average premium increase was 5.9 percent. The average premium of all riskinsurance increased by an average of 7.5 percent. Car owners now pay an average of €849.96 annually for their car insurance. At the beginning of 2023, that was still €792. In 2022, car owners in the Netherlands paid an average of €744 per year for their car insurance.

According to Autoverzekering.nl, the premium increase can mainly be attributed to inflation, but an increase in crime probably also plays a role. According to the comparison site, a relatively large number of cars will be stolen in 2023. In the first half of 2023, 2,917 passenger cars were ‘borrowed’ without the owner’s consent.
