The first model of the new EV brand Volkswagen will arrive in the summer

Scout Motors. That is the new EV brand from the Volkswagen Group that will undoubtedly ring a bell among old American enthusiasts. For some time now, the Volkswagen Group has been warming up the mood for the arrival of the brand’s first car and now we finally know when it will be unveiled: this summer.

Scout Motors is a new brand with a well-known name for the Volkswagen Group. Scout Motors takes its name from the International Scout, a Bronco-like off-roader from the American International Harvester. The Scout appeared on the American market in the 1960s and lasted for two generations. Volkswagen’s truck division – Traton – acquired the Scout trademark rights when it acquired Navistar about four years ago. Scout Motors has already released teasers of its first models a few times. Now it announces via an otherwise revealing video that the brand’s first model will be unveiled in the summer.

The new brand of the Volkswagen Group focuses on electric pick-ups and SUVs, models that are currently being developed especially in and for the American market. It is therefore very questionable whether Scout Motors will also be active in Europe. It would not be the first time that a Volkswagen Group brand has ignored the European market. For example, the group has the Jetta sub-brand in China, which you will not find in our part of the world.

The brand has hired Chris Benjamin as Chief Design Officer. Benjamin previously worked behind the drawing board at Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo and – not unimportant for Scout – Jeep. Scout Motors will build a factory in South Carolina that will produce up to 200,000 electric cars annually.
