BMW had a record year in 2023

Never before has the BMW Group managed to sell as many cars as in 2023. There were also sales records for the BMW brand and Rolls-Royce.

The BMW Group (BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce) looks back on an exceptionally successful year. In total, the three brands sold 2,555,341 cars, of which 2,253,835 were BMWs. For the group it means a sales growth of 6.5 percent, for the BMW brand it means a growth of 7.3 percent and for both it is a record. Rolls-Royce also achieved a sales record, as we previously reported. Mini also had a slightly better year (+0.9 percent) than 2022, selling 295,474 cars.

BMW Group in particular saw the market for fully electric models pick up. Of these, it sold 376,183 units, 74.4 percent more than in 2022. The BMW brand experienced even greater growth; 92.9 percent, for a total of 330,596 fully electric cars. This means that 14.6 percent of BMWs sold were fully electric. At Mini this involved 45,261 units, more than 15 percent of the total and a growth of 3.5 percent.

The Asian market was again the largest market for the BMW Group, with over a million cars sold. Just under 825,000 of these cars were worn out in China. Europe was in second place, with 942,805 cars sold. The BMW Group’s sales grew above average, especially in its home country Germany, by 11.7 percent. Here in the Netherlands, the BMW Group sold 26,018 cars, 13 percent more than in 2022. BMW came in at 20,590 (+18.2 percent), Mini 5,417 (-3.3 percent) and Rolls-Royce at 11 (the same).
