The Chinese BYD intends to bombard the premium corner of EV land with competitors with luxury brand YangWang. Today we are introduced to BYD’s YangWang U7, an electric sedan for which – unfortunately – no technical specifications are yet available.
After Tesla, BYD is the largest producer of electric cars in the world. It has not achieved that position by only purchasing the handful of different models worldwide that you know from the brand in the Netherlands. The European model range may be growing steadily, but it is still far from as large as BYD’s range of EVs in its home country of China. BYD’s EV range is also expanding rapidly there. At AutoWeek.nl we can regularly show you new models well before they are unveiled. Also from BYD. Not long ago we presented you with the possible little brother of the BYD Atto 3 and in August 2023 we unearthed patent plates of what should become a new electric premium sedan from BYD. We now have the first images of the actual car. His name is: YangWang U7.
YangWang? Certainly. That is the name of a premium electric brand from BYD. YangWang already has an electric supercar on the menu in China and also supplies an electric SUV in the form of the U8. The electric sedan that we showed you last year in the patent image will be called Wangwang U7. We do not have any technical specifications yet. It is striking how the U7, with its striking headlights with large C-shaped extensions, fits in design-wise with the U9, but also with the models of the Ocean series of car brand BYD.
Is the YangWang U7 coming to Europe? Who knows. In any case, the design of the car has been registered with the European patent office.
