Electric Omoda 5 will cost less than €40,000

‘Deliberately not in the budget corner’

Electric Omoda 5 will cost less than €40,000

The Chinese manufacturer Chery has big plans for the European market. It is bringing two brands to Europe this year and will add a third in 2025. The Omoda 5 will be one of the first cars that the brand brings to the Netherlands. The electric variant of the Omoda 5 should cost less than €40,000.

Chinese car manufacturer Chery indicated again last year after an announcement in 2017 that it would also focus on the European market. This time there seems to be more momentum behind the plans. Chery is certainly not starting its European offensive modestly and has not one or two, but three brands ready to attack the European market. Omoda and Jaecoo are coming this way this year and in 2025 Chery will also bring Exlantix to Europe. The Omoda 5 is one of the first Chery cars to come to Europe. The Omoda 5 will be launched on the market here and there with combustion engines, but will also have a fully electric version. Thanks to reports from Automotive News, we know that it will cost less than 40 grand.

Executive director of Chery Europe Jochen Tueting tells Automotive News that the starting price of the electric variant of the Omoda 5 will be below €40,000. According to Tueting, the cars that Chery will sell in Europe are deliberately not positioned in the budget corner. The Omoda 5 EV is a 4.4 meter long SUV that – at least in China – has a 224 hp electric motor and a 61 kWh battery. Its range should be about 450 kilometers.

Jaecoo will fire the 7 on the European car market this year. Next year it will be Exlantix’s turn. This includes an electric SUV and an electric sedan.
