On an adventure in your fried egg Porsche!
Do you think the new Porsche 911 Dakar is cool, but don’t have the budget for it? You might find this nice conversion that Kalmar offers for the 911 of the 996 generation useful.
If you love the Porsche 911 and like to get off the paved roads sometimes, then you are probably a big fan of the 911 Dakar. That adventurous version of the current Porsche 911 is not exactly cheap; it costs over three tons. The Danish Kalmar Automotive therefore came up with the idea of giving the most financially accessible 911, the 996, a kind of Dakar treatment. The result is this RS-6.
The RS-6 obviously sits higher on its wheels than a standard 996, up to 8 cm higher to be precise. That should give you a ground clearance of 21 cm, about the same as with the second Cayenne. After treatment by Kalmar, the 996 also has new and adjustable dampers, new suspension and spring plates, a strut brace and improved drive shafts. The car also has special 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin (winter) off-road tires. If desired, the RS-6 can also be equipped with hydraulic and extensively adjustable damping. You can then also return the ride height to a traditionally low level at the push of a button.
Of course, everything is also nicely decorated as desired with a special sticker set, an LED light bar on the roof and a rack on the back of the car with a spare wheel and jerry cans in it. In the photos you see a 996 that has received the full treatment. Kalmar says it works based on the customer’s wishes and therefore no RS-6 will be the same. Of course, all this costs something: the conversion costs at least €45,000. If you can conjure up a good basic 996 somewhere for not too much money, you can probably keep the whole thing (well) under a grand. Still a lot cheaper than a 911 Dakar!
