Allego is introducing a ‘connection rate’ to prevent unnecessary charging station occupancy

Charging station operator Allego wants to prevent charging stations from being unnecessarily occupied. It is therefore introducing a ‘connection rate’, which should encourage people to disconnect their car in time.

People with an electric car are probably familiar with it: you come to a public charger, but there is already a car that is fully charged. The EV therefore occupies the pole unnecessarily and you cannot top up. Allego wants to put an end to this with a so-called ‘connection rate’. From the first hour that a car is connected, an extra €0.25 will be charged. This applies to every hour that the car is on the charger. The connection rate will be applied from March 1.

Sander Sommer, the director of Allego Benelux, explains this step: “We believe that every EV driver should be able to charge when necessary, without sacrificing their time, schedule or general quality of life. We hope that this connection rate will encourage more drivers to use chargers with consideration for the next user and keep their cars plugged in for the time they need to charge, no more, no less.” Allego introduces this rate in collaboration with municipalities. Of course, it also has to do with parking.
