It pays to check

Scan cars that automatically issue parking fines often turn out to be wrong. This is evident from inquiries Checkout. Things went wrong very often in three large municipalities in our country.
If you receive a parking fine on the bus, it is always worth checking whether it is justified. In the case of a fine issued by a scan car, it could simply be unjustified. According to Checkout things often went wrong in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Rotterdam takes the cake in that respect; Over 100,000 objections were received against such parking fines and around 75,000 of them turned out to be well-founded. In Amsterdam, almost two-thirds of the 95,000 objections were well-founded and in The Hague 43 percent of the more than 50,000 objections.
What exactly goes wrong with the scan cars? Well, Checkout understands that things can go wrong for someone who is loading and unloading, or that, for example, a fine is issued to someone who appears to have a parking permit. Things also sometimes go wrong when tickets cannot be purchased due to defective machines. The scan cars leave no room for customization, although this sometimes turns out to be necessary. Sometimes people make mistakes themselves, but the municipalities come to terms with them because a 100 percent fine is a bit exaggerated. The municipality of Amsterdam explains that this concerns, for example, people who have submitted a new license plate too late, or people who have parked incorrectly somewhere for the first time.
