Lease car as a lure

The number of lease vehicles on Dutch roads increased in the first three months of this year. According to the Association of Dutch Car Leasing Companies (VNA), there were mainly more business lease cars, which the association attributes to the tightness on the labor market.
The number of available jobs is increasing, but companies are struggling to fill these vacancies. To attract employees, they offer higher pay and better benefits, including a company car. According to the VNA, the Dutch lease fleet grew by more than 16,000 lease vehicles in the first quarter, an increase of 1.2 percent on an annual basis.
This brings the total to more than 1.3 million. Nearly 854,000 of these vehicles are business lease cars, the number of which grew by 1.4 percent. The number of private lease cars also increased, by 1.2 percent on an annual basis. At the end of March there were almost a quarter of a million of these cars in the Netherlands. The VNA points to increased wages and purchasing power as important factors for this growth.
At the end of March there were almost 250,000 leased vans, 1,500 more than in the first quarter of last year. According to the VNA, the increasing number of self-employed people is contributing to this increase.
