Still far behind petrol cars

On the second-hand market, petrol cars are still by far the most popular, but there was a noticeable shift last month. In April, there was more search for second-hand electric cars than for diesel used cars.
In general, there is more search for second-hand diesel cars than for electric used cars, but a change was visible in April. New figures from Automotive Mediaventions, the parent company of sales platforms Gaspedal.nl and Autotrack, show that second-hand electric cars have moved up one place. After petrol cars and hybrid cars with a petrol engine, EVs are the most popular used cars. At some distance; Gasoline cars accounted for 52.5 percent of searches, gasoline hybrid cars for 26.2 percent and electric cars for 9 percent. Diesel used cars remained stuck at 8.4 percent. Cars that require LPG played a role in the margins with 1.8 percent of searches, as did hybrid cars with diesel engines (1.3 percent) and cars that run on natural gas (0.6 percent).
Some previously noted trends continued in April. Since the end of last year, the station wagon has again been the most sought-after body shape among used cars and that was no different in April. 24.4 percent of searches were for a station wagon. Hatchbacks are in second place (22.1 percent) and SUVs in third place (17.7 percent). Since the end of last year, the gap between the average search price and asking price has also become quite large and this has only become worse in April. On average €24,480 is asked for used cars, while the average search price is €17,766. The search price of hybrid petrol cars is on the rise, while that of EVs is falling. The average search price for hybrid cars is over €50,000, for EVs it is around €35,000, for petrol cars it is just under €25,000 and for diesels it is just over €20,000.
No noticeable changes are visible in the top 10 of most popular brands and models. The Toyota Yaris moves up one spot to eighth place, at the expense of the Ford Fiesta (P9) and the BMW 1-series comes in tenth. The most popular models remain the Volkswagen Golf and Polo, followed by the BMW 3-series, Audi A3, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Tiguan and Nissan Qashqai. Volkswagen is by far the most popular brand with 9.9 percent of searches, Audi is in second place with 7.9 percent, followed by BMW with 7.5 percent. 2020 is the most sought-after year of construction and people are mainly looking for used cars with no more than 100,000 or 150,000 km on the odometer.
