Entry-level version disappears, prices of remaining versions increase
In the market for an adventurously decorated station wagon from a Japanese manufacturer? Then you cannot ignore the Subaru Outback. The Subaru Outback is rarely seen, but it is still for sale in the Netherlands. Unfortunately for those who want one: it will be considerably more expensive.
When you think of a large station wagon, you quickly think of the BMWs, Volvos, Audis, Volkswagens and Skodas of this world. But it can also be done differently: Subaru has also been offering the Outback, once called Legacy Outback, in the Netherlands for years. The Outback is not familiar with any form of electrical assistance, but it is the only station wagon with a nice, stubborn boxer engine as a power plant. Unfortunately: the Subaru Outback is becoming more expensive. And quite a bit too.
Until recently, the Subaru Outback was available in four versions. One of them is missing: the Comfort, called slip-on, which cost around €63,500. The above 50Yr AWD Edition, Field and Premium will continue to exist, but they will each be just under €6,000 more expensive. The least expensive Outback is now the 50Yr AWD Edition, which costs €70,867. The Field and Premium now cost €71,867 and €74,912 respectively. Regardless of the chosen version, there is a 169 hp and 252 Nm powerful 2.5 four-cylinder boxer engine under the hood. Four-wheel drive is of course standard.
The Subaru Outback is not a great success here. Until 2019, more than 100 units were sold annually, but in 2020 only 44 units were registered. After a small revival in 2021 to 71 registered copies, things dropped back to 20 copies in 2022. In 2023, Subaru registered only 12 copies in the Netherlands. The price increase will not help to boost that figure again.
