Onvo L60

Meet the first car from Nio’s brand new brand Onvo. This is the Onvo L60, an electric SUV-like that wants to sink its teeth into the success of the Tesla Model Y.

As a Chinese car manufacturer, you don’t seem to count seriously if you don’t try to sell your products across more than one brand. This time it is Nio that is expanding its activities with a new brand: Onvo. Onvo – that stands for OnVoyage and which is called Ledao in China – is a brand with which Nio says it mainly focuses on ‘families’ and – somewhat in the style of Dacia – should offer great value for money. That’s all well and good, of course, but Onvo is more than just semi-vacuum marketing talk. It also presents its first car: the Onvo L60.

The Onvo L60 immediately seems like a serious player. At least, if we look at the specifications that Onvo serves us digitally. For example, just like the Nio ET9, the Onvo L60 has a 900v architecture and a particularly low drag coefficient of only 0.229 Cw. According to preliminary data, the Onvo L60 consumes an average of only 12.1 kWh per 100 kilometers. Certainly not a bad performance. There will be a variant with what Onvo calls an Ultra Long Range Battery, a package that should give the L60 an electric range of more than 1,000 kilometers. This is probably the 150 kWh battery that parent brand Nio also has on the shelves. There will also be versions with a range of 555 and 730 kilometers. Please note: both the average consumption and the range figures have been determined according to the CLTC method. So these are not WLTP figures. Like Nio’s cars, the Onvo L60 should also benefit from battery swapping technology. With its length of 4.83 meters, the Onvo L60 is about 8 centimeters longer than a Tesla Model Y. The wheelbase is 2.95 meters.

The L60 gets a 17.2-inch infotainment screen, a 13-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch display for the rear passengers. In addition, the car is packed with 30 cameras or sensors, including – according to Onvo – several 360-degree cameras and seven cameras with a resolution of 8 megapixels. Go ahead.

The starting price of the Onvo L60 in China has been set at €28,000. For comparison: the Nio ES6 – currently Nio’s ‘smallest’ SUV – costs at least €43,000 in China. Nio also has plans to bring Onvo to Europe.
