Parking outside the city

In various cities in our country, cars are increasingly being pushed out of the street scene. The municipality of Zwolle also prefers a car-free city center and therefore has plans for a huge parking lot outside the city.
You can of course keep cars out of the city center with environmental zones or simply with road closures, but Zwolle wants to take a different approach. The municipality hopes to offer drivers a good alternative and thus reduce traffic in the city. In particular, the number of cars parked in the city must be reduced significantly down. Plans are on the table for a mega parking lot outside the city, specifically intended for those who want to come to Zwolle by car. Our colleagues report this The Stentor.
The parking lot should be located in the north of the city, right next to the A28 highway and the end of the N340. Space has been found there for a parking lot that will accommodate around 600 cars. Anyone who parks their car there (at a favorable rate or possibly for free) can take the bus to the city center in due course. There is no definitive green light yet, the municipality of Zwolle will spend the rest of the year investigating how the parking lot can achieve its goal and then the shovel can be dug in the ground next year.
What do you think of the idea of removing cars from city centers with such mega parking lots? Let me know in the comments.
