Disney+ no longer allows subscription sharing: this is the extra price

Do you have an account with Disney Plus? Then we have bad news, because Disney Plus no longer allows you to share your subscription. You now have to pay extra for that.

Share Disney Plus subscription

It has been coming for a while, but it is now no longer possible to share your Disney Plus subscription. The streaming service is implementing the same measures that we previously saw with Netflix. This means that you are not allowed to share a subscription with people outside your household. Only devices that regularly use the same internet connection may be logged into a shared subscription.

Disney had already announced these measures, but it is only since today that you have the option to add an extra user to your subscription. If you do not do this, users outside your household will receive a notification. This will state that they do not belong to the household and must pay extra or take out their own subscription. Do you still want to share your Disney Plus subscription? Then Disney Plus will charge more money.

Sharing a subscription costs money

If you are the main user of the Disney Plus subscription, your device will automatically be linked to your household. Disney looks at the internet connection you regularly use and your approximate location for this. According to the company, no precise location data is used for this. As the main user, your household will therefore be registered automatically. Please note that the prices of Disney Plus change. This is how much you pay for (sharing) your subscription to Disney Plus:

  • Monthly subscription: 10.99 euros (from October 13.99 euros)
  • Annual subscription: 109.90 euros (from October 139.90 euros)
  • Additional user: 5.99 euros per month

To share the Disney Plus subscription, you now pay 5.99 euros more per month. In addition, Disney will increase the subscription prices from October. A Premium monthly subscription will then cost 13.99 euros. Do you want to share that subscription with someone outside your household? Then you pay at least 19.98 euros per month. The new Standard subscription is slightly cheaper, which costs 9.99 per month for two users within the same household.

Disney Plus takes measures

Bad news if you share a Disney Plus subscription with people outside your household. The streaming service is rolling out the new measures gradually, so you won’t immediately see a notification if you share a subscription. This will probably happen in the coming weeks or months, as was the case with Netflix. It is therefore advisable to wait a little longer before adding users outside your household, so that you avoid the extra costs for the time being.

Good to know: the costs of an additional user are debited monthly from the account of the main user. This also happens if you have an annual subscription, which means that you have both an annual and a monthly debit from Disney Plus. Do you find sharing a subscription to Disney Plus too expensive? Then read here how you can get 18 euros discount on your subscription for the next three months!
