Google will be in court on October 22 for violating privacy. The first hearing in the lawsuit by the Stichting Bescherming Privacybelangen against Google will take place in Amsterdam and you can also register for compensation.

Google will be in court on October 22. Then the first hearing will take place in the lawsuit by the Foundation for the Protection of Privacy Interests against Google for large-scale privacy violations.

Ada van der Veer, chairman of the Foundation for the Protection of Privacy Interests, believes that the first hearing is a milestone in the lawsuit against Google: “The court will assess whether we are allowed to represent the interests of millions of victims in the Netherlands. It is an important step towards a fundamental change in the way Google handles consumers’ personal data. And an important step towards compensation. At the same time, it is frustrating that tomorrow it will only be about whether the Foundation is suitable, while Google continues to violate the privacy rights of millions of Dutch people every day.”

Why this lawsuit?
In May 2023, the Foundation for the Protection of Privacy Interests and the Consumers’ Association started their action against Google. They say Google is illegally collecting and processing data for their own profit and want Google to stop doing so. They also want Google to pay compensation to Google users for long-term and systematic privacy violations.

Register for compensation
The Foundation for the Protection of Privacy Interests demands €750 for Google users who have used a product or service there. Would you like to register for compensation? Then go to https://www.claimservice.nl/googleclaim/ and log in with your details. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will receive compensation.
