At the beginning of October, Samsung launched the new Galaxy A16 5G and now Samsung announces the LTE version of the A16. Read here what specifications both devices have and the difference between 5G and LTE.

Many smartphone manufacturers release both a 5G version and one with LTE for their devices. This includes Samsung, which after the launch of the Galaxy A16 5G is now announcing the A16 LTE. In this article you can read more about these devices in the popular Samsung Galaxy A series, such as the screen, cameras and software. You can also read the difference between 5G and LTE here.

Design and screen
The new Galaxy A16 5G and LTE have a slim design with thin bezels. It measures 77.9 x 164.4 x 7.9 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 200 grams. The large 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screens have an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels with bright colors and are therefore very suitable for binging programs or playing the latest mobile games, according to Samsung. Additionally, the 90Hz refresh rate should allow for smooth transitions from one scene to another.

Memory
The A16 comes with 4 GB of working memory (RAM) and 12 GB of storage memory that you can expand thanks to a micro SD card up to 1.5 TB.

Cameras
The Galaxy A16 devices are equipped with a high-resolution triple camera. For example, the 5MP ultra-wide camera (ultra-wide camera) is intended for photographing landscapes, while users can take good quality selfies with the 13MP front camera. The 50MP main camera is built to take great photos or videos every moment and offers instant editing suggestions to help users perfect their shots on the go.

Battery and more specifications
The battery is (also) good: the 5,000mAh battery ensures that it should last a day, which is nice. You can also quickly charge the A16 with Super Fast Charging.
It also has dual SIM, NFC and IP54 protection, so the A16 is dust and splash-proof.

Software and updates
The Galaxy A16 series comes with Android 14 and with 6 generations of OS updates and 6 years of security updates, keeping your device safe and up to date. The A16 also uses Samsung Knox Vault, which physically isolates your PIN codes, passwords and other personal data from unauthorized access by hackers. Samsung Knox Vault protects users’ personal data in tamper-resistant hardware, keeping them safe from potential threats.

5G and LTE
As mentioned, there are two versions of the Galaxy A16: a version with 5G and one with LTE. LTE means that you use 4G or speeds of 100 megabits per second (Mbps), while 5G speeds of 10 Gbps (gigabit per second) should get. That’s a big difference, because it’s 100x faster than 4G. Unfortunately, this is not always achieved in practice. But with 5G you do have a (much) faster internet connection, which is great if you do a lot of gaming or streaming, for example a live broadcast or a (football) match. You don’t want any stuttering images. If you (almost) do not do this and practically only use a WiFi network, then choose LTE. It’s up to you whether it’s worth the 30 euro difference…

Price and availability
The new Galaxy A16 5G was launched at the beginning of October for € 229. The new Galaxy A16 LTE will be available from mid-November for €199.
