Amsterdam is going to ban more diesel cars

Amsterdam will soon become less accessible for older diesel cars. The environmental zone is being expanded and will also apply to passenger cars.

Amsterdam currently has an environmental zone intended for freight traffic, vans and taxis. They may not enter the area (around the city center up to the A10) if they do not meet the minimum emission standard. Currently, vans from after January 1, 2000 are still allowed, but that changes. Passenger cars will also be included in the requirements from now on. From 1 November 2020, only vehicles with Euro 4 diesel engines or higher may enter. This means that diesel cars from before 2005 are no longer allowed to enter.

The zone is also being expanded. On the north side of the zone, it will now stop at the IJ, but from November the zone will also apply to the area north of the IJ, up to the A10. On its website, the municipality states that due to the corona crisis, enforcement will not yet take place immediately, but from March 2021, drivers can expect a fine if they enter the zone with a diesel car that is not allowed there.
