Wuling presents Hong Guang X.

Wuling has presented a new study model in China. The brand parks the Hong Guang X, an SUV with a striking angular body, on the fair floor of the Chengdu Auto Show.

We know the Chinese manufacturer Wuling, among other things, from the cheerful electric block box that appeared earlier this year. That Wuling has a taste for that angular design language is evident from the fact that the brand has now presented an equally angular but many times larger study model: the Hong Guang X.

The Hong Guang X is a show car with which Wuling shows how it will broadly shape its future SUVs. Virtually every line appears to have been drawn along a ruler. The car has a particularly angular muzzle with a square grille that is joined on both sides by an inlet in which – you guessed it – square light units. Those angular lamps have an X signature, which of course fits in well with the name of the study model. The nose – in which we see some Mitsubishi influences – is not the only striking element of the SUV. For example, spotlights have been fitted above the windscreen and Wuling has incorporated small chrome-colored elements into the plastic protective edges of the wheel arches.

Regular side mirrors are missing, instead, the Hong Guang X has stick-mounted cameras that have taken on the role of the mirrors. Further back, Wuling has added a Targa-like element to the C-pillar, a design twist that we know in Europe from the Kia Stonic, among others. At least as striking are the rear doors, which open backwards. Of such suicide doors we do not expect a production model from Wuling. Exact dimensions and technical specifications will keep Wuling under control, but it seems to be an SUV that is similar in size to cars like the Land Rover Discovery and Ford Explorer.
