Extra functions using the Haptic Long Press

If you want to activate a certain function in iOS and iPados, it is possible by tapping the corresponding button. What many users do not know is that you can press certain buttons in the user interface longer, a so -called ‘long pressure’ (long press). All you have to do is put your finger on a button and hold it down for half a second, after which a vibration can be felt.

Unfortunately, the user interface does not indicate that you can hold a certain button for longer for extra functionality. The Safari Web Browser on the iPhone and iPad is richly equipped with such long impressions functions. These functions can be incredibly useful and help save time. 1. Share the URLs of bookmarks

When you have created a folder with bookmarks, you can easily copy the URLs of the bookmarks to share it with a contact person. Open the bookmark overview, tap and hold your finger on a created folder with bookmarks (long pressure).

In the window that appears now, select the ‘Copy Content’ option to place the URLs of the bookmarks on the clipboard. You can then paste the URLs in any app.

2. Create bookmarks for outstanding websites

If you have multiple websites open, you can automatically create a bookmark for these websites. Select one of the websites that you have opened, tap and hold your finger on the bookmark symbol at the bottom of the screen.

A new menu now appears, in which you can select the ‘Add bookmarks’ option for (…) tabs’. The opened windows are automatically converted to bookmarks.

3. Scroll through a webpage faster

With the help of a vertical swipe on the screen of your device you can scroll through the content of a web page. The moment you do that, the Scroll indicator appears on the right in the screen, which indicates the current position within the web page.

By tapping and holding on the scroll indicator (the indicator is now getting bigger) you can quickly scroll through the opened webpage.

By tapping a link in Safari you open a new webpage. It is also possible to first view a preview of the web page behind a link. You do this by tapping a link and holding it down (long pressure). A preview will appear below, by tapping it you open the web page. If you do not want this, you tap ‘Hide preview’ at the top right of the preview.

5. All opened Safari tabs close in one go

If you have opened multiple websites in Safari, you can close them by opening the overview (bottom right) and tapping the crosses on the open windows on the cross.

It is also possible to close all open tabs in one go. For this you tap the ‘ready’ and hold them down a few moments. A new window with a button ‘Close all (…) tabs’ now appears, with which you can close all tabs in one go.

6. Recently re -open closed tabs

If you have accidentally closed a tab, you can easily reopen it in Safari. To do this, go to the tab overview, below the screen. Tap the ‘+’ button (bottom left) and hold it (long pressure). 7. Open all bookmarks in a folder

When you have created a folder with bookmarks, you can open the web pages in the folder in different tabs.

Open the bookmark overview, tap and hold your finger on a created folder with bookmarks. In the window that appears now, select the ‘Open in new tabs’ option. The URLs that are present in the bookmark Map are now open in new tabs.

8. Download linked files

Safari has recently been provided with a download manager, so you can download files directly from a link. These can be files but also an image on a website. Tap a linked link and hold, then select the ‘Download linked file’ option in the context menu that appears.

This function also works for web pages. For example, if you tap for a long head of an article, you can download an HTML version of it.

9. Safari windows merge (only iPad)

This function is only available for iPad users with iPados. If you have opened multiple browser windows with different tabs in the background, you can merge them into one active browser window.

Hold down the tabs symbol in the top right corner of the screen and select the ‘Merge all windows’ option.

10. Manage tabs (only iPad)

If you have opened several tabs under Safari on your iPad, tap one of the tabs and hold to access the special tab functions.

You will now get access to options to copy the URL from a tab to the clipboard and close all other tabs. In addition, you will find new options with which you can rank tabs by title or on the website. Select one of the last two options and the open tabs are ranked alphabetically based on the selection.

Tight duration for a long edition

The standard minimum period that your finger must press on the screen to recognize a ‘long pressure’ is half a second. If you experience problems when performing a long pressure, you can adjust the touch duration.

To do this, open the Settings app, go to accessibility> Touch> Haptic Touch and select the desired touch duration. You can try the adjusted setting with the help of the interactive demo area.
