With the help of the photos application you can easily manage your photos and place them in albums on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. By placing photos in an album you can apply more structure to your photo library and you quickly have the photos of a certain period at hand.
Pay attention when posting photos in an album. Some iPhone, iPad or Mac users think that they can remove the photos from their photo library, but that is absolutely not the case! Albums only work as a ‘shortcut’ to the photos and videos in the photo library. We explained how that is exactly here.
Create new album in photos
- Open the Photos Application on your iPhone or iPad
- Navigate to the overview of all albums
- Then tap ‘Create’
- Choose ‘New album’
- Enter a name for the album
- Tap ‘Add photos’
Have you installed iOS/iPados 17 or parent? Then you can do this via the photos app â–¸ tab ‘albums’ â–¸ Plus button â–¸ New album.

Your library will then be opened and you can select photos and videos that you want to add to the album. When you have completed this, you must tap the ‘Add’ button to make the album.
In addition, you can also first select all photos and videos in the ‘Photos’ tab and then tap the part button and choose ‘Fancy album’. You can then opt for an existing or new album.
Steps for Mac
On a Mac it is best to open your photo library and select all the desired photos and videos. Then click on the selected photos with a secondary click (right mouse button) and then choose ‘Add to’ and choose an existing or new album.

Sync albums
The album that you have just created is automatically synchronized with an iCloud photo library and is therefore available on all your iCloud Apple devices such as a Mac or Apple TV.
