Opel expands to South America

Opel now operates under the wing of Groupe PSA and that means that a different international policy is being pursued than when the brand was still part of General Motors. Opel now reports that it is expanding to South America.

In February last year, Opel returned to the Russian market and a few months later it was announced that Opels would also be sold in Israel. The urge to expand appears to be great, because now Opel is announcing that it will also be active in South America. Opel is spreading its wings to Colombia and Ecuador.

From the summer of this year the companies SKBerge and Nexumcorp set themselves up as Groupe PSA’s partners in Colombia and Ecuador respectively. In both countries, Opel places the Crossland X, Grandland X, Combo Cargo and the Vivaro on the price list. The Corsa follows a few months later.

The expansion to South America and the model range to be carried out there can be called special. When Opel still sailed under the General Motors flag, “European Opel” was simply sold as a Chevrolet in South American countries. In various cases it was even outdated models that were kept fresh with a modified front and rear. Consider the Chevrolet Astra (later ‘Vectra GT’).
