Kawasaki has rolled out a recall in the United States for the last generation Ninja ZX-6R. The bearing dishes of the crankshaft bearings are possible with a too large time, so that the bearing is not sufficiently lubricated and the block can get stuck. For the time being it does not seem to apply to the European market.
No fewer than 17,792 units of the Ninja ZX -6R – 7,809 of the 2024 model with production data between 3 April 2023 and 5 June 2024 and 9,983 of the 2024 and 28 June 2025 model produced between 18 April 2024 and 28 June 2025 – were stuck in the United States because of a serious problem with the motorcycle, that may be the case, that.
What’s going on? Kawasaki has discovered that during the assembly of the engine block of the 2024-2025 Ninja ZX-6R, the bearing dishes of the crankshaft with a too large moment are fixed, making the oil film between the slide bearing and the crankshaft too thin and the lower heating, which can lead in a worst-case scenario.
According to Kawasaki, it is estimated to be around 1% of the total number of affected Ninja ZX-6Rs, so about 175 pieces. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for the Ninja ZX-6R due to the seriousness of the situation.
We have contacted the Benelux importer who told us to be familiar with the situation in the US, but not yet received information about a recall here. The US-Spec deviates from the Europa-Spec, so it could be that the recall is specific to the American market. Kawasaki Europe, based in Hoofddorp, is currently investigating the business.
