In the past month, used car sales in our country rose again to a record high. Never before have so many Dutch people bought a used car in the month of July. In total, 275,281 Dutch people bought an occasion.
Occasional sales increased by an average of 10 percent compared to the same month last year. In particular, sales from companies to consumers (B2C) increased strongly by 17.1 percent. 131,642 customers went to a company for a used car. Up to and including July, 1,723,022 people bought a used car. The counter was at 1,714,131 last year, 0.5 percent lower. This year it is mainly the last months – after the lockdown – in which the Dutch proceed in large numbers to purchase a used car.
As usual, figures from VWE show that Volkswagen was the most popular brand on the used car market last month. A total of 15,913 used Volkswagens got a new owner. In second place is Peugeot with 10,332 units, followed by Opel (9,999) and Renault (9,598). Other popular brands include Ford (8,809), Toyota (7,331) and BMW (6,960).
Where Kia and Skoda were big players in the sale of new cars in July, they appear to have a smaller share in the used car market. ‘Only’ 3,773 people bought a used Kia and 2,535 chose a second-hand Czech.
Even with less obvious brands, there is plenty of trade in used copies. Take Ferrari, of which 46 units were sold in July alone. Apparently there is also a serious market for used Dodges, Maseratis and Lancias, because with 46, 51 and 120 units in succession, a surprising number of people buy used cars from these exclusive brands. Also an interesting statistic: 246 used Teslas were registered in the name of a new owner in the past month.
